The Colts have brought in some competition for Anthony Richardson, agreeing to terms with Daniel Jones on a one-year, $14 million contract on Tuesday.
It’s been a rocky first two seasons for Richardson, who has dealt with injuries and ineffectiveness. The former No. 4 overall pick has talent, but the Colts clearly are considering another starting option in Jones.
Who do the oddsmakers think has the upper hand? At least for Week 1, it’s Richardson.
The athletic signal-caller has been listed as the heavy -250 favorite to be the Opening Week starter, per SportsBetting AG. Jones has +170 odds to win the job out of training camp.
But here’s where it gets interesting: Jones is actually favored to start the majority of games for the Colts this season, as the oddsmakers project that Richardson’s time as the starter won’t go well.
Jones has -140 odds to start the majority of the games in 2025, while Richardson is listed at +100.
Indianapolis has made some nice moves in free agency and has a solid roster, but its fortunes in 2025 will come down to the quarterback position.
The oddsmakers believe Richardson is going to get the first crack at starting, but if he does end up going to the bench, it could result in an unceremonious end to his tenure with the Colts.
