Kyler Murray Wants To Spend Whole Career With Arizona Cardinals

Larry Fitzgerald is the rarest of birds — a star NFL player who remained with the same team for his entire career.

Could Kyler Murray be the next Cardinals player to pull it off?

The star quarterback is entering his seventh season in Arizona, and while he could still play another decade or more in the NFL, Murray made it clear he wants it all to come with the Cardinals.

“If I could play my whole career here, finish it out here, sign me up,” Murray told sports anchor Cam Cox on 12 News Tonight. “Guys like Kobe (Bryant). Kobe played for one organization his whole career. That’s something I admire, and that’s something I want to do.”

When Murray takes a snap this fall, he will surpass Jake Plummer as the longest-tenured Cardinals quarterback since the franchise moved to Arizona in 1988.

Jim Hart is the standard bearer in Cardinals history, playing 18 seasons with the team from 1966-1983 in St. Louis.

Hart played one final season in Washington, while former star quarterbacks like Kurt Warner and Carson Palmer also played elsewhere.

Murray hasn’t been apart of the same team success as Warner or Palmer, which is something that gnaws at him.

“We’ve only played in one playoff game since I got here, which is very frustrating,” Murray told Cox. “I’m more motivated than ever. Going into Year 7 and playing in the playoffs once – I don’t believe that I’m a couch-watching-football type of guy. The fact that I haven’t led us to that, I take a lot on my shoulders to perform in the moments I’m needed the most.”

There was some tension between Murray and the former regime, but he’s in a great place with coach Jonathan Gannon, GM Monti Ossenfort and the rest of the current decision-makers.

Murray is optimistic about the 2025 season, and about eventually bringing a Super Bowl to the Cardinals.

“I want to do it here,” Murray told Cox. “There is no other place I’d rather be.”
