Even though the NFL draft is centered around college prospects, it’s also a time when veterans can end up on the move.
Some big names are potentially on the block this year, and GMs will prefer to deal them for this year’s draft capital to get a quicker return.
Which veterans could be traded?
Jaire Alexander, Mark Andrews, Trey Hendrickson and Jalen Ramsey are the betting favorites to be the first player traded during the draft, but BetOnline also has multiple quarterbacks and others on its list.
First Veteran Traded During Draft
- Jaire Alexander +400
- Mark Andrews +500
- Trey Hendrickson +500
- Jalen Ramsey +600
- Kirk Cousins +800
- Anthony Richardson +1000
- Dallas Goedert +1200
- Will Levis +1200
- D’Andre Swift +1600
- Kayvon Thibodeaux +2000
- Breece Hall +2000
- Tyreek Hill +3000
- Micah Parsons +5000
Alexander is the betting favorite because the Packers have made no secret of their intention to split with the talented but oft-injured cornerback.
Alexander, a two-time All-Pro selection, is still only 28 years old, and teams will be interested, especially if he ends up modifying his contract.
Hendrickson is in a very public contract dispute with the Bengals, and it feels like this is their last chance to trade him if that’s the decision that is made.
Goedert, Andrews and Ramsey have all been mentioned in trade talks, while the betting longshots like Swift, Thibodeaux and Hall could be more expendable depending on early draft-day selections.
It could be deja vu for Swift, who was dealt during the draft in 2023 after the Lions selected Jahmyr Gibbs in the first round. The Bears are reportedly hoping to draft Ashton Jeanty in the top-10 on Thursday.
Cousins, Richardson and Levis all began last season as starting quarterbacks, but only Richardson has a true shot of being an opening day starter in 2025, and that is complicated by the Colts’ offseason addition of Daniel Jones.
The Colts will probably want to give Richardson at least one more season to prove himself, but if they have already determined he isn’t the quarterback of the future, the draft pick return will be greatest this weekend.
Cousins is a backup in Atlanta but is still good enough to be a low-end starter for a team desperate at the quarterback position, while Levis will be expendable once the Titans choose Cam Ward with the No. 1 overall pick.
Tyreek Hill and Micah Parsons are not expected to be dealt, but if the Dolphins and Cowboys want to make a big pivot during the draft, they could be expendable for the right price.
